Guess Who's Back!

Well, well, well, look who it is! My short-term hiatus from blogging was unintentional and literally every day I told myself I was going to post on here and share some of my most recent work and talk about myself in the most flattering of ways. But time kept getting away from me, my to-do list got longer, my kid got more mobile, and my health, well, that's for another post.

I recently took on a part time Recruiting job working remotely from home. A little back story - I worked for a well known Temp Agency for three years, had some of the area's biggest clients, and kicked ass at what I did. I "retired" as I like to say, to stay home with Lorelai and pursue photography, until I got a message a couple of weeks ago from a former client asking if I wanted to work for them but still stay at home. Basically, she made me an offer I couldn't refuse AND I get the chance to interact with adults and NOT listen to Mickey Mouse a few hours a day. I was sold. So, between this new venture, my business, my kid, my husband, my house, my animals, the holidays, and another little side job I've taken on that I'll be sharing more about soon, I've been a wee bit busy. But it's cool, I'm just going to not sleep the next couple of nights so I can draft up some posts to share and feel accomplished in this area of my life.

Anyway, the house is decorated for Christmas and once I've finished deep cleaning it for our guests this weekend, I'll snap a few photos to share of the inside and outside of our super festive abode! I also plan to shoot Lorelai's Christmas/7 month photos next week which will be so super adorable!

So, a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to photograph The Hutton Family and the day we planned to meet, it was around 32 degrees outside and incredibly windy. I'm telling you, it was so cold, I couldn't feel my fingers or my nose when we were done. I was nervous driving home that the pictures would reflect how cold we all were, but when I opened them up on my computer I was absolutely amazed. Some of the most beautiful colors, tones, and familial connections I've had the opportunity to photograph in a very long while! Thanks to Angela, Josh, and sweet Cora for sticking it out and sharing some laughs with me.

Where Have I Been?!

Hey All! It's been wild over here at the Glover House, or Glover Tree Farm as I'm calling it now that I have all of my Christmas Trees up and decorated! We've been diligently decorating and preparing like  the good little elves that we are for Christmas and we're almost finished putting it all together. I promise I'll blog about it once we're done, the finished product pretty much puts the Griswold's to shame.

Lorelai turned six months old this weekend which is so crazy I literally can't even. She's halfway to a one year old. WTF! It seems like I just pushed her out of my chuckie and now here she is almost one?!? I've been working lately and haven't had an opportunity to get her in my studio and take some photos but I need to do so ASAP. That's my goal for tomorrow, quote me on it.

I also have some upcoming Christmas mini sessions and Bradley built this cute little stand to use and I went to Target yesterday to pick up some fun props for the shoot. I'm using my niece and her boyfriend as my guinea pigs to snap a few images to get an idea of what it's going to look like and I'm so excited to see it all come together. It's gonna be so adorable!

Boo Boo Kitty also had her six month check up yesterday. Her pediatrician said she's an overachiever (duh) but she's kinda spoiled (double duh) and I should start making her sleep in her crib. She slept in her own room for the first time last night to her and Daddy's dismay (he was threatening to go in and rescue her) and I couldn't be more proud of her, or well rested. Time is flying by, I wish I could bottle these days and visit them anytime I wanted to. Instead it's like they're escaping through my fingertips and I can't slow it down or make it stop. I wish my sweet girl would stay a baby forever except to be potty trained so I don't have to change anymore diapers.

I had a couple of sessions recently, one with the Walker Family whose girls you may remember from a shoot I did with them over the summer. This time the whole family was involved and we had so much fun despite the chilly weather. The girls, Peyton and Reese, wore the most beautiful dresses and  posed for me like professionals. They are superstars in my book and I always wish I had more time to just sit and capture their essence in photos because it is amazing.

I also did a Senior Shoot with my friend Barb's daughter Abbi. Don't get me wrong, I love shooting families and documenting those emotions and interactions, but there's also something special about a solo shoot. There's a level of closeness and a connection you have to make with that person to get them to relax and open up enough for you to capture their individuality and tell their story. Plus I love the outfit and location changes that come along with a senior shoot. It just feels like you're reading different chapters of their story. They turned out beautifully and I'm so excited to share them!

Five on Fri-Yay!

I haven't done a Five on Friday in three years, so I might be a little rusty, we'll see. I've got about a 25 minute window to write this post before my kid wakes up and discovers I'm not right next to her and all hell breaks loose. Let's do it!

I'm linking up with A. Liz Adventures today for 5 on Friday. I've been out of the blog game so long I didn't know Darci from the good life blog took a break. It seems like all my old blogger pals have retired (I'm looking at you Holly, come back already so I can continue to ride your blogging coat tails. This shit isn't as easy as you made it look!), so if any of you ARE out there and still reading, comment or email me, let's chat!

1. We were selected as a brand representative for Sprout Shell 4-in-1 Infant Carseat Covers which is one of the coolest things to happen to us. I just received our cover this week and can't wait to take Lorelai grocery shopping this morning with it. It doubles as a cover for shopping carts, so now when I take her with me she can sit in the front strapped in and I'll have more room for groceries. Keep an eye on my Instagram this morning for a photo of us trying it out for the first time. If you're interested in purchasing your own, click my link above and use code Kayla15 for 15% off your purchase!

2. I'm about halfway done decorating the inside of our house for Christmas. It is a process that unfortunately cannot be completed in one sitting. It's become more of a challenge this year because we have to work around baby furniture (her swing, jumperoo, etc) and we have an exponentially larger amount of trees to put out. My home looks like an artificial tree forrest and it is amazing.

3. Our two year wedding anniversary is this Tuesday which also happens to be election day. I told Bradley the only thing I wanted was a nice card and for him to deep clean the Jeep that he has singlehandedly filled with donut crumbs, straw wrappers, and chewed off fingernails. I'm crossing my fingers he makes this November 8th just as special this year as he did two years ago. If I'm lucky, he'll even throw in a new air freshener.

This really happened to me on my wedding day
4. We have entered Lorelai's photo into another contest for a chance at winning a $250 Toys R Us gift card. Being basically a single income family (I'm still working my way toward making a profit at this photography thing) we have had to cut back on a lot of things which honestly hasn't been that big of a deal. However, I would love to give my daughter the best first Christmas possible, and this would be an amazing way to make that happen. If you love me, please click on the link below, select her Baby Harry Potter image, click on the black heart just above the caption until it turns red. You will have some serious good karma coming your way if you do!

5. Does anyone else have animals that are constantly nearby/next to them? Kind of like my current situation:

This is my couch right now. I'm on the far left squeezed into a little space, i have two large breed dogs laying next to me and the cat hovering over my shoulder watching my every move. Is this normal? Is there such a thing as Attachment Animal Parenting? It's hard enough having a 5 month old who wants to marathon nurse on the reg, but I can't even so much as go to the bathroom without these three waiting outside the door when I come out. I need more personal space in my life!!!

Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I have some big things going that I can't wait to share on here soon. You can find me on Instagram (kayla_layla_photography) or Snapchat (kaylaglover19) to keep up with my day to day shenanigans!

Moms Don't Get Sick Days

It's been a rough week in the Glover household to put it mildly. We're all sick, and have been for the better part of a week now. On top of that, we removed our living room carpet a few weeks ago because it was a disgusting cess pool of dirt, grime, germs, and dog hair, in order to refinish our hardwood floor. When we bought our house three and a half years ago we had one dog and no children. The idea of carpet seemed like such a better alternative to refinishing the hardwood floors that were stained with unidentifiable substances (read: animal feces and urine from the previous owners) and I just love how cozy and homey carpet can be. We renovated the entire upstairs of our home which was a test that somehow our relationship passed. Now, we have two dogs, a cat, and a baby. The carpet had to go.

This was before the sanding/staining process. The idea that we lived with this underneath our carpet for so long makes me cringe.

Side note: for those of you thinking about refinishing hardwood floors take heed. Sanders with bags on them don't catch all the dust. I should have known this was too good to be true but I live in a world of naivety and denial.

We had to all live locked in our bedroom for the duration of this project which was about four days. Four very, very, very long days with two dogs, a cat, a husband, and a baby all in a King size bed. We could have moved downstairs during this time (we have a living room and guest bedroom down there) but the idea of hauling all of our necessities down and then back up seemed almost as bad. Partner this with everyone being sick, Lorelai crying and fussing, Bradley crying and fussing, my dogs whining and barking, and the cat attacking all of us periodically because she hates us, this experience stood as a testament to my faith. Jesus took the wheel and kept me almost sane.

This is the after photo. Such an amazing transformation! My father in law did the majority of the work and I can't thank him enough for all of his help. We were initially going to do all the floors (hallway, and both upstairs bedrooms) but after realizing how costly and time consuming it actually was, we've decided to delay our torment and partake in that in the Spring.

Over the weekend we went to a birthday party and stayed just long enough for everyone to think I have a well-behaved child. Mom win! After we got home, we took Lorelai outside to play in the leaves while Daddy cleaned up the back yard a little bit. I decided to bust out my camera and Mamarazzi her. These are some of my favorite shots.

 I enjoy ironic shirts :)
Too cool for school

Halloween was unfortunately not the fun celebration I had hoped it would be. Lorelai and I spent the morning at the pediatrician's office because of her temperature and her refusal to nurse laying on her right side which had me concerned she may have an ear infection. Thankfully it was just a bad cold, and while her temp ran for about two and a half days, it's gone back down to normal and we are only fighting the stuffy/runny nose. Her little voice is still hoarse, but it sounds so darn cute when she babbles it melts my heart.

We managed to meet up with my family for a little bit of trick-or-treating and some pictures. I forgot my camera at home (of course) but have some low quality, out of focus images to share instead. We made it about three houses before she started screaming so loud we hightailed it to the car and got the hell out of there. Since she's only five months old it's not the end of the world, she can't eat the candy anyway and has no idea why we've made her wear this ridiculous costume in the first place. I'm just glad I got some pictures for me and we all got to go to bed at 7:30pm. My kind of night!

Lorelai and Daddy hitting up the second of three houses

She was so thrilled about the entire process

Sorry I was so pretty on Halloween. I went as a sick and stressed out Mom. Nailed it!

Girlfriend rocked her piggy tails though ;)

 Chillin' with Grandma

Cousin Love!

I have a Senior session this weekend that I'm so excited about. It's been a couple of weeks since my last session so I'm eager to get back behind the camera. I am toying with the idea of running a Christmas mini session at the end of November, and need to seriously get my shit together and start planning. I have had zero energy, a headache from hell, and if I bend over too low snot drips out of my nose like a faucet. You're welcome for the visual.

Hopefully we are on the tail end of this virus, I also have a lot of work to do around my house. We've brought up our Christmas decorations, which, is a huge deal in our family. Of course once I'm done I'll be posting about it on the blog. Until then, stay well everyone :)

Vote for Baby Harry Potter!

Hey All! Happy Friday!

A while ago I submitted Lorelai's photo for a local photo competition dressed as Harry Potter and kind of sort of forgot about it until today. The prize is a $250 gift card to Toys R Us which may not seem like a lot, but for a single income family it will really help us give Lorelai a great 1st Christmas.

I've mentioned before that unfortunately, we aren't making any money going "viral" and while the exposure has been so wonderful and we are so appreciative, it would be so nice if we could ask everyone to visit this link, select her photo, and click on the heart above the photo's description. You can vote once a day and the contest ends October 31st.

VOTE HERE!

We continue to appreciate all of the support and positivity everyone has gone out of their way to share with us and thank you so much in advance for helping us out. Lorelai thanks you most of all :)

Have a great weekend!!
